About the Regional Snowfall Index (RSI)

The NOAA Regional Snowfall Index categorizes snowstorms based on their societal impacts across populated areas. RSI data includes ground-truth snowfall measurements from CoCoRaHS observers, NWS cooperative stations, and trained weather spotters across the region. Each dot on the map represents a reporting station with confirmed snowfall. Circle radius scales with snowfall amount and color deepens from light blue โ†’ indigo โ†’ violet as totals climb. Cyan โ˜… markers indicate the four ASOS airports included in this analysis. RSI data coverage: 13 storms from January 2000 through March 2018.
